ゼミ紹介
人間だけが持つ言語知識。それを私たちは、特別な障害がない限り、無意識のうちにあまり苦労もせずに生後数年で獲得します。この言語獲得を可能にしているメカニズムとはどのようなものなのか？どのような言語獲得の過程をたどるのか？という問いに答える試みが言語獲得研究です。ゼミでは、心理言語学の中でも特に「母語獲得」に焦点を当て、これまでの研究で報告されてきた成果や、言語獲得メカニズムについて、英語で書かれたテキストや論文を読みながら議論します。また、実験やコーパス分析の手法を身につけたり、自分で実験や調査を実施し、その成果を報告したりできるようになることを目指します。
私たちが無意識に身につけている言語の豊かさとその獲得の不思議を探ります。
メッセージ
大学に入って初めて受講した言語学の授業で、「言葉の知識はその母語話者であれば生後数年で自然に身につけることができるのはなぜか？」という、とても単純でとても難しい問題に出会いました。それ以来ずっとこの母語獲得の不思議と向き合ってきました。子どもは一見簡単な言葉しか話していないように見えますが、実は驚くほど複雑な言語知識を有していることに気づかされます。大学でも大学院でも、そして海外の大学院でも研究を続けてきましたが、未だに、人はどのように言葉を獲得するのかという問題の全容解明には辿り着けません。簡単には解明できないところが面白いのだと思います。
学生の皆さんには、大学生活の中で、自分にはこれがある！と自信を持って言えるものを見つけてほしいと思っています。そのための手助けが少しでもできればと思っています。

It was my first linguistics class where I encountered a very simple but difficult question: Why can children naturally acquire their native language within a few years? Since then I have been engaged in the study of language acquisition, which has taught me that in fact children possess amazingly complex linguistic knowledge although they seemingly speak only easy words and phrases. I have studied language acquisition for more than 20 years, but I still can’t find a definite answer. I think it is this unsolved mystery that has fascinated me for a long time. I hope you will be able to find something you have confidence in during your university life, and I’m happy to help you find it.
