【Meiji】

Sept. 1880Senshu College, offering courses in Economics and Law, founded as a two-year evening school in Tokyo
Sept. 18831883 Course of study extended to three years
June 1885Moved to present Kanda Campus
Jan. 1887A correspondence course in the Economics and Law Department began under the reform regulations
June 1888Economics Department changed to the Political Economic Department
Sept. 1889Political Department established (abolished in Feb. 1891)

The School of Letters Department of Japanese Language and Literature was reorganized to become the Department of Japanese Literature and Culture and the Department of Japanese Language. The School of Letters Department of Humanities was reorganized to become the Department of Philosophy, the Department of History, and the Department of Geography. The Department of Liberal Arts and Journalism was added to the School of Letters. Master’s and doctoral programs were added to the Graduate School of Commerce’s Major in Accounting.
