Our General Education is both wide-ranging and profound. The way of acquiring credits is varied and flexible.
The purpose of General Education Classes is to supplement the specialized training given by the Schools and Departments with classes designed to help students enhance their general knowledge and overall judgment, and develop a well-rounded personality.
The chief characteristic of General Education Classes is the system of allowing students freedom of choice in obtaining the necessary credits. The system of General Education at Senshu does not impose restrictions on the students' choice of classes by grade level or department. This makes it possible for students to take their classes over several grade levels, enabling them to acquire credits from varied fields in a way not possible at other universities.
The University also offers a variety of class groupings in various fields:
general education, foreign languages, health & physical education, lectures and seminars on special topics, liberal arts seminars, and information processing.
A student in the School of Law, for example, could take a seminar in literature in line with his or her own interests and concerns, or study the basics of computers and the methods of using them, while studying the specialized subjects of law. In this way, Senshu University offers an education that is both wide-ranging and profound.
Seminars on Special Topics
Seminars on Special Topics are classes which bridge multiple fields offered by the University in order to examine one specific topic. These classes are offered in one academic year or over a period of several years. While individual majors or specializations form the bases of students' academic life, seminars on special topics play a follow-up role.
General Education, Foreign Language and Health & Physical Education
In both the daytime and evening divisions, General Education Classes are divided into three fields-the humanities, social science, and natural science. In addition, the daytime division offers classes in eight foreign languages-English, German, French, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Korean, and Indonesian. The evening division offers classes in English, German, French, and Chinese. In addition, Health & Physical Education Classes teach methods of promoting health both in theory and exercise that can be useful for life after graduation.
