Department of Business Administration

Business Administration is the academic discipline that focuses on corporate management activities and investigates the ways of efficiently conducting the operation and management of commercial organizations, including how to achieve profitability and develop a business. For example, even during the current recession, there are some successful theme parks and other corporate brands such as Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan that boast overwhelming customer gathering rates, as well as 100-Yen Shops that cater to a wide range of consumer needs at low prices. What kind of management systems are such companies employing? Analyzing management questions require specialized knowledge and practical ability in business administration and the neighboring fields of economics and accounting, as well as marketing theory and flexible computer operation skills. The School of Business Administration provides a full range of "practical studies" aimed at cultivating professionals in business administration who want to start up new ventures independently. It is a "practical science" needed for students who seek to pursue management professionals or entrepreneurs.

The curriculum of the Department of Business Administration forms a flow that starts with the students beginning to absorb practical knowledge about the systems governing modern corporate society, forms of trading, corporate management systems, etc. Then the flow moves on through theoretical subjects that provide a framework for putting this knowledge in order, and eventually ends with the students completing seminars and developing their own information and business ideas. The theoretical subjects are arranged into ten courses: “Firm, Market and Society,” “Start-up of New Businesses,” “Strategy Design,” “Global Management,” “Firm Valuation and Finance,” “Accounting Information,” “Customer Satisfaction and Marketing,” “ Business Solutions,” “HRM and Knowledge Management,” “IT Professionals.” Students choose their own two courses as the central component of their studies.

With a flexible division between courses, students can learn systematically by selecting the classes they need according to their own individual interests and concerns. Furthermore, the school has a comprehensive support system for its students. During office hours, members of the teaching faculty are available to counsel students on their various projects in and out of school.
